HANGING CREATURES

1998-2001

The Hanging Creatures were first developed for Full Shackle in1998, but over the years I have added to them with Bird Creature in 2001 and Retainee in 2005. While developing text for Full Shackle, we (Crisus) discovered that the relationship of a torturer to his or her victim was similar to the relationship of a parasite to its host. Each kept the other barely alive yet needed the other to secure their own survival. So the torturer/victim relationship and the parasite/host relationship both become self-sustaining cycles. The Hanging Creatures were developed with this in mind, moving from images of torture victims to that of parasite-controlled hosts. The physical movement of the pieces is driven by a combination of both motors and pneumatics.
