BOARDER

Boarder was an inquiry into the effects of six years spent at an Irish boarding school. I had been invited to attend my ten year reunion, and so I decided that rather than attending I would create a performance that would hopefully bring closure to that time of my life.

Using a light at the end of a fishing rod, I began the performance with a shadow play from a platform fifteen feet above the audience. I descended a rope ladder and sat at a long white table to a meal of prunes. I ate the prunes and spat the pits towards the audience. A sleeping sequence followed, accompanied by a stream-of-consciousness text. The performance then shifted to a reunion setting, where as guest speaker I declined to present my true feeling about the school.
